Using efficient spiral flat tube technology to retrofit boiler economizer

Spiral flat tube is an efficient heat transfer enhancement tube that greatly improves the heat transfer efficiency compared to traditional light tubes. At low Reynolds numbers (tube side: Re<5000, shell side: Re<8000), the heat transfer coefficient inside the tube is 2-3 times higher than that of ordinary circular tubes. Although it decreases with the increase of Reynolds number, it can generally increase the heat transfer coefficient by more than 50%. Our company has applied this technology to economizers and achieved good results.
Mechanism of heat transfer enhancement inside the tube
The spiral flow channel inside the pipe causes longitudinal rotation and secondary swirl of the fluid during flow. This spiral disturbance effect increases the degree of fluid disturbance, thins the heat transfer boundary layer, and enhances fluid mixing. This mixing maintains a high temperature gradient near the pipe wall, increases the Nu number, and greatly improves the heat transfer coefficient.
Mechanism of heat transfer enhancement in shell side
The velocity and direction of the shell side fluid in the channel are periodically changed due to centrifugal force, which enhances the longitudinal mixing of the fluid. At the same time, the shell side fluid flows through the spiral contact point of adjacent pipes and forms a wake that separates from the pipe wall, increasing the turbulence of the fluid itself and destroying the fluid boundary layer on the pipe wall, thereby enhancing the heat transfer in the shell side.
